Radiotherapy uses pulses of radiation to destroy cancer cells. There are a number of ways it can be used to treat lung cancer.1

For NSCLC, if the cancer has not spread but not very far, but surgery is not possible because of your general health, you may be offered radiotherapy. In some cases, this may be combined with chemotherapy. For SCLC, radiotherapy is often used in combination with chemotherapy.2
